This time I propose a recipe for an appetizing, quick and easy side dish, fennel au gratin with sesame seeds.
They are very good and go perfectly with both meat and fish main courses.
In our version, fennels do not need to be pre-cooked, just cut them into regular pieces of 4-5 cm, season them and cook them for about 20 minutes.
I am sure that even those who do not particularly like the characteristic flavor of this vegetable will appreciate this recipe.
Fennel actually lends itself to many appetizing preparations.
Have you ever thought, for example, of enriching a white ragù with the addition of some fennel?

How to prepare fennel au gratin with sesame seeds
Clean the fennel by removing the green parts and the hardest outer leaves, wash and dry them.
Cut them in half and remove the core by cutting it with the knife, as shown in the image.
Now proceed by cutting the fennel into regular pieces of 4-5 cm
Put them in a bowl and season with salt, oil and pepper.
In another bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the grated cheese and sesame seeds.
Then pour a few tablespoons of this mixture into the bowl together with the fennel and mix well.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and grease it lightly.
Place the fennels without overlapping them, cover them with the remaining breading, pass a drizzle of oil and bake at 180° static for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Activate the grill for the last 3-4 minutes of cooking.
Serve lukewarm ….
Anna’s advice:
Do not throw away the harder outer leaves of fennel, you can use them to prepare a puree, a soup or in addition to other vegetables for a vegetable broth.
