Spritz Hugo – original recipe and modern variant

The Spritz Hugo also known as White Spritz is a fresh alcoholic cocktail flavored with elderflower and mint.

This elderberry cocktail it is very popular and you can do it at home in easy time.

We will need: good Prosecco, soda or sparkling water, elderflower syrup, ice cubes and a few fresh mint leaves.

The Hugo Spritz recipe is very simple.

You have to pour the ingredients directly into the cold glass and add ice cubes and mint leaves.

Possibly decorate with a slice of lime or green apple.

The original recipe for Hugo Spritz, created by the South Tyrolean barman Roland Gruber, involved the use of lemon balm syrup.

But elderflower syrup was easier to find. So over time this has been used.

There is also the Hugo Spritz St-Germain, prepared with a liqueur obtained from fresh elderberry flowers, which the most demanding mix with Champagne and finalize with a splash of Seltz.

What are the doses to prepare the Spritz Hugo?

The original recipe seems to have consisted of 150 ml of prosecco, 20 ml of syrup and a splash of soda.

But honestly we prefer the version that includes Prosecco and seltzer water in equal parts, because it is lighter.

Try both recipes to find your preferred dosage.

In this recipe, even the type of mint can make the difference, did you know that Hugo Mint exists?

It has a very light flavor and is therefore particularly suitable for the preparation of this cocktail.

Don’t worry if you can’t find it, just use your favorite mint, it will still be a fresh and fragrant drink.

Also prepare our version of the non-alcoholic Hugo … you will be pleasantly surprised.
